To recap, the new Radeon RX 5700 series is built around AMD’s Navi GPU architecture. Also, to clue some of you in, the naming convention of the new Radeon series is both a play and celebration of AMD’s 50th anniversary in the ICT industry.
As many of us have come to expect of AMD, the new GPU is built upon an entirely new architecture known as RDNA. In essence, RDNA is the replacement to the semiconductor maker’s archaic Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture. In regards to the architecture’s performance, AMD says that RDNA achieves 1.25 times the performance-per-clock and 1.5 times the performance-per-watt. Compared to the previous architecture. In a real-world comparison, AMD demonstrated the Radeon RX 5700 series’ prowess against the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070. At the end of the demo, AMD said that its own card had outpaced the competition by approximately 8%, which by out count was about 10-12 frames higher than the RTX 2070.
Unfortunately, AMD was relatively coy about the hardware details for the Radeon RX 5700 series. On the bright side, Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, announced that more information about the graphics cards will be divulged during its keynote at E3 2019. On that note, it looks like we will have to wait until 11 June 2019 (10 June 2019 in the US) to learn more about the brand’s new powerhouse GPU.
