Officially, The Walt Disney Company referred to Astro as the official distributor of the streaming service in Malaysia. This allows the pay-TV operator to offer Disney+ Hotstar to its customers which is generally similar to the deal that it already has with HBO and iQIYI. Specifically, access to Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia will be made available for Astro customers that have a subscription to its Movie Pack. However, it will come at an additional cost of RM 5 per month on top of their existing monthly fee. Astro customers that don’t have the Movie Pack in their subscription still can obtain access to Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia through other packs. Specifically, they can opt for the Starter Plus Pack and Value Plus Pack which costs RM 68.82 and RM 87.50 respectively. Meanwhile, Astro also said that it is currently working to have Disney+ Hotstar accessible directly through its Ultra and Ulti boxes later this year. This could be related to the existence of the dedicated Apps button on the remote for the Ulti Box which was never publicly clarified by Astro. This was taken from the full user guide for the Astro Ulti Box [pdf]. You can see the Apps button, located just above the remote’s numerical pad.At the same time, the company also took the opportunity to hint a brand-new Astro Movie Pack that will be rolled out alongside Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia on 1 June 2021. It apparently will be “better and bigger” although we still have to wait until later in the year for further details from Astro.
