Bungie’s says its decision to transform its current multiplayer shooter into a free-to-play is based on player feedback. According to the developer, many of its players argued that they shouldn’t be paying full price for a game that was “unfinished” at launch. In the spirit of “a fresh start” and its upcoming free-to-play status, Bungie will also rename the game to Destiny: New Light. Further, the initial purchase cost of the base game will be removed, and all year one expansions will be part of the core game. At no cost. Future expansions such as the upcoming Shadowkeep, however, will need to be purchased separately upon availability.
More importantly, Bungie says that Destiny: New Light will also be heading to Steam, which makes a lot of sense for the developer. Ever since it broke off from Activision Blizzard, the studio no longer has any legal obligation to keep the game as an exclusive on Battle.net. On that note, it should be noted that the game will also be heading to Google’s Stadia cloud-gaming platform in November this year. Last but not least, Bungie will also be introducing a new “Cross Save” feature to Destiny: New Light. Allowing players to access all their characters from one “primary account” across all platforms that supports the game. (Source: Techspot)
