First to break the news of a Dead Space return was GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb via the outlet’s GamesBeat Decides podcast. A number of other video games news sites like Eurogamer and Gematsu have since corroborated the story. Which makes it pretty likely to be true at this point.
Some details on the new Dead Space title is that, as mentioned, it’s a reimagining of the series and not a sequel to the existing trilogy. Gematsu also reports that it is currently being developed by EA’s Motive Studios. GamesBeat claims that an official reveal is set for 22 July, during an EA Play Live digital event. The last entry into the Dead Space series was back in 2013 with its third game. It was stuffed to bursting with monetisation, which spoiled the original recipe that worked for the first two games. Which indirectly but ultimately led to the closure of its developer, Visceral Games. Hopefully EA learns from this with the revival of the series, and not try the same thing hoping for a different result. (Source: GamesBeat / YouTube, Eurogamer, Gematsu. Image: Steam)
