According to the company, a “server configuration change” was the reason behind its more than two billion users having suffered the massive outage. The blackout lasted more than 12 hours for some people, with users in North America and Europe being the most affected. This isn’t the first time Facebook’s servers have faced problems. Back in November last year, the social media platform also suffered from issues as well. However, this is by far the brand’s worst server problem yet; not only did it knock out the service’s primary functions, it also rendered WhatsApp and Instagram – both owned by Facebook – unusable in that same duration.
