A concerned passenger highlighted these glitches on the system after he himself noticed the full charges on his flight booking. While a complaint was filed with Malaysia Airlines on the 7th of May to alert them to the issue, he was given the go around for almost 2 weeks before Malaysia Airlines finally acknowledged the issue, and he was given a refund for the extra charges on the 21st of May. The glitch which involves the child discount for domestic flights however is still present on the online booking system at time of writing. For business class bookings, the 15% child discount is not applied at all, even when it is clearly stated during the selection process. The glitch only appears to be limited to domestic flights within Malaysia, as the discounts are applied correctly for all International routes. For Economy fare bookings, customers are entitled to a 15% child discount for Economy Flex and 10% for Economy Basic, however we’ve discovered that on selected routes, this child discount is incorrectly applied as well. To avoid any confusion, the following screenshots are taken for MH operated flights and does not include any domestic codeshare flights. While we are fairly certain that the glitch for the Business Class child discount was completely negated, we can’t seem to figure out why a lesser than advertised discount was being applied for the Economy cabins. While the amount might not be that significant (about RM5-RM8 for the KUL-PEN-KUL route per child ticket), we will still be hoping for some clarification from Malaysia Airlines. Once again, the discounts are correctly applied for International routes for both the Economy Basic and Economy Flex fares. We are also very concerned that despite being alerted to the glitch almost 2 weeks ago, no remedial action was taken to address it, even until today. If you’re affected by this glitch, you might need to contact Malaysia Airlines directly to request for a reimbursement.
