Bloomberg reports that Sony Interactive Entertainment has hit production issues. One example is with its SoC, with production yields down to as low as 50%.
Overall, SIE expects that its PS5 production by the end of the fiscal year will be cut down by four million units. This still means 11 million consoles produced by the end of March 2021. That being said, Bloomberg’s report did not indicate what the number of consoles produced by the end of the calendar year will be like. This is obviously not a good situation for the PS5 to be in. This is especially after Microsoft revealed the prices for its Xbox Series X and S consoles. The latter is also significantly cheaper, at a price which the PS5 Digital Edition is unlikely to match, at the cost of being less powerful. Of course, SIE still has one last ace – the price of the PS5 – up its sleeve. Hopefully, the company plays it in its upcoming announcement. (Source: Bloomberg)
