The rumour stems from a post made on the Chinese social media platform, Weibo. According to the user who made the post, the Xperia 1 IV is expected to ship out with a new main quad-camera module, only instead of multiple 12MP sensors, Sony is upping the ante with three 48MP sensors. With the fourth sensor’s pixel count still undisclosed. Specifically, the Weibo users say that, based on an engineering sample of the Xperia IV they had obtained, we could be looking at a 48MP f/1.28″ native Bayer main, a 48MP f/2.43″ Quad Bayer ultra-wide, and dual telephoto lenses, with one housing a 48MP f/2.43″ Quad Bayer sensor and the other serving as a periscope telephone lens. Again, the rumour is simply that, and as such, it still remains unverified. Having said that, if this does hold water, then it goes without saying that the main camera module definitely sounds like an upgrade over the one in the Xperia 1 III, which simply offered a triple 12MP camera array and a ToF sensor.
