The Malaysian Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Ministry said that it is “studying the proposal to liberalise the electricity retail sector.” This is aimed at determining if doing so will result in more competitive prices for consumers.
If the government does go ahead with this, then TNB will not be the only option for consumers in the peninsula for electricity. That said, the result could swing either way. The Malaysiakini report also states the results will be made known soon, but no specific date was specified. The idea of having more than one option when it comes to electricity will indeed be a novel one. It would be interesting to see the way in which this affects our monthly electricity bill.
